Review
delightfully eccentric (Sunday Independent)
the minimalist illustrations and the delightful little creatures who are observers greatly add up to the fun (Irish Examiner)
a lovely story, with gorgeously stylish illustrations (Parents in Touch)
a warm, witty celebration of, well, lots of things: the joy of fixing and making something; the ordinary pleasures that something like a bright pair of socks can bring; even of Ireland itself … Tatyana Feeney’s use of printmaking techniques adds interesting textures and despite the simple story there’s a real variety of scene, image and composition. Mr Wolf is a hugely appealing character, slightly gawky but with a real confidence in himself and what he needs to do. A charming picture book for the very young (Books for Keeps)
conjuring a colourful, cosy, sock-wearing wolf, whose unravelling footwear bring him on an adventure around Ireland … Feeney’s blend of block printing and line drawing creates a lovely layered texture to the illustrations, while the simple journey-structure also offers an environmental tale of origins (Irish Times)
this lovely book is sure to delight any younger child … He is a true eccentric … an adorable, carefree character who follows his heart and ends up super happy. Feeney’s fresh, illustrative style makes this an uplifting book to both view and read (Children’s Books Ireland Recommended Reading Guide 2017)
The story is about socks and a wolf. The wolf likes wearing socks. He dances and dances, and he gets a hole in his sock. It gets bigger and bigger. He tries to fix it himself but he can’t. He goes to the library because he wants to learn how to fix it himself. He finds a bit of wool and follows it around on an adventure. I liked the part where he went to the library and learned to fix it himself. I like the sheep too because he makes the wool. I give it 10/10 (Liam (6) Senior Infants, Ballyvongane National School, Cork seomraranga.com)
Beautifully illustrated throughout, this stunning book by Tatyana Feeney is an absolute delight to read … I absolutely loved the dapper, friendly Mr Wolf and his colourful, cosy socks. Perfect to share with young book (and sock!) lovers (Lovereading4kids)
