James Connolly was the leader of the Irish Citizen Army. Growing up in terrible poverty in Scotland, he made the fight for the rights of workers his life’s mission. He moved to Dublin and grew to love it. He said that the voices of children playing on the streets there was music to his ears.
He soon saw that freedom for Ireland from British rule could give workers a better life. He fought in the Rising and after injuries, he bravely continued to lead the resistance.
