We have published the first book in the series, The Brown Bull of Cooley – published in Irish as An Donn Cuailgne. It tells the story of Queen Maeve of Connacht, who sets out to capture The Brown Bull of Cooley, to prove to her husband that she is the richest person in Ireland.
BROWN-BULLirishThe legend is re-told by ex-BBC journalist Trish Hegarty in a simple story-telling style, and is beautifully illustrated by Celtic artist, John Quigley. Design and layout is by Eileen McLaughlin of Emick Design and translation into Irish is by Daire Ní Laoi.
The book is ideal to be read out to younger children and as early readers for 6-10 year olds. It is also ideal for the classroom as a supplementary reading text in English or in Irish, contributing not just in terms of language and literacy but also to the Myths and Legends area of the curriculum.
