Women who led the way!
The women of the Irish Suffrage Movement showed immense courage when they fought for the right of women to vote. They encountered great opposition on the way.
At last, one hundred years ago in 1918, some women in the United Kingdom (then including Ireland), were allowed to vote for the very first time.
And when Ireland became a Free State in 1922 it immediately gave equal voting rights to all its citizens, including women!
